Bioneers was founded in 1990 by social entrepreneurs Kenny Ausubel and Nina Simons to provide a network for environmentalists, scientists and others to discuss solutions to the world’s climate and social problems and help bring them to fruition.  It hosts an annual conference and local networking events, and produces media content including podcasts, online articles and books.

The organisation’s stated aims are based on “restorative food systems, biomimicry, rights of nature, indigeneity, women’s leadership and youth leadership”.  On the former, recent work includes highlighting regenerative agricultural practices among small farmers in Latin America, East Africa and India, where they are using waste-to-energy and other technology to both increase food production and turn their farms into ‘carbon sinks’.
