The Open Repair Alliance is a group of organisations based around the world, united by a commitment to make electrical products easier to repair and more durable. It is creating an Open Repair Standard to help promote the benefits of restoring products past their warranty. The organisation is also behind the annual International Repair Day, when members of the public in cities across the world are encouraged to take an electrical item to a participating shop to be repaired, and professional repairers are urged to share their stories and expertise.
Community repair events as part of International Repair Day have been held across the world, from the UK to Spain, Iran, Australia and the US. The most recent day, in October 2019, saw more than 500 events being held over six continents, shared widely on social media, and the Alliance claims that the campaign is doubling in size every year.
