The UK emits 5.7 tons of carbon dioxide per person annually, according to the European Commission, which makes the country one of the lowest CO2 emitters per capita among the world’s other major economies.  The US emits 15.7 tons per person, and China 7.7 tons (its huge population giving it an attractive per capita figure despite the country as a whole being the world’s biggest polluter).
