A massive ocean plastic cleaning device is catching and keeping trash from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch – an area in the Pacific Ocean twice the size of Texas.  Invented by 25-year-old Boyan Slat, he and his team’s persistence and hard work have finally paid off after their initial attempts to make the system work failed.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located between Hawaii and California, is the largest accumulation of ocean plastic in the world.

The Ocean Cleanup project, founded in 2013, is a nonprofit aiming to remove plastic from the Pacific.  Its device can collect large objects as well as microplastics.
