California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, has signed a bill banning hotels from supplying travel-sized plastic toiletry bottles.  The aim is to reduce the number of such containers that are disposed of by the state’s hotels and guests.

The new law, which will come into effect in 2023, will apply to hotels with more than 50 rooms.  Hotels with fewer rooms must stop using the small bottles by 2024.  They will be faced with fines if they fail to comply.

California has been a forerunner when it comes to banning single-use plastics in the US.  It was the first American state to ban plastic bags in 2014.
