Banker to the Poor: Micro-Lending and the Battle Against World Poverty is the memoir of Muhammad Yunus, who in the 1980s established a bank dedicated to providing very small loans (aka, micro loans) to Bangladesh’s poorest citizens, following the new principle that financial credit is a human right.  Grameen Bank has inspired other banks around the world to operate a similar model, and this book relates the intellectual and spiritual awakenings that led Yunus to put his genuine belief – that world poverty can be eradicated – into action.  It is an inspirational account of ‘one man making a difference’, the principles of which not only relate to economics but can be applied to environmentalism and beyond.
