Break Through: From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility is an extension of the authors’ 2004 essay in which they provocatively described “the death of environmentalism”.  That might sound like a bleak premise, but after explaining why the green strategies of the past will be inadequate to solve the current climate crisis, the authors provide a compelling solution, although it will not be to everyone’s taste.  Which is, to put it briefly, that we should stop doom-mongering and scaring people (which props up reactionary politics, they say, and rarely solves anything long-term) and instead persuade people of the need to combat global warming through progressive, positive ideas.
