First published in 1972, The Limits to Growth’s dire forecasts for the future of our planet have in recent years begun to come to pass.  Using cutting-edge computer modelling, the authors presented a choice of scenarios up to the year 2100: and the one in which we do not properly tackle the Earth’s environmental and resource problems – because we continue to seek population and material growth on a ‘finite’ planet – shows climate disaster, economic collapse and rising death rates.  The only real solution, the researchers say, is to keep our use of resources in check, thus preserving them while lowering pollution – but this will require a massive change in the way modern economies and societies are currently being run…
