Naomi Klein’s This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate does exactly what it says on the tin – describing the future of the planet in terms of a fight to the death between the evils of capitalism and the good of the environment.  She blames climate denial and political shilly-shallying on the lobbying of big business, aided in recent years by the financial crisis and austerity, and pours scorn on the hope that new technologies will be our saviour, or that the gradual move towards renewable energy is enough to put things right.  Klein calls for a complete overhaul of the global economic system, and for some this book might be too much a tirade against free market economies and not enough an answer to the climate crisis, but the idea that economic forces must change in order for the world to change remains a powerful one.
