Foundation Green Ethiopia is an organisation working to alleviate poverty in Ethiopia through reforestation and water harvesting projects, with the aim of giving people the tools to be sustainably self-sufficient.  The idea is that by tackling soil erosion caused by deforestation, and providing a source of clean water, the livelihoods of farmers will increase, as will food security and the health of the country’s landscape.

The charity’s work has led to previously arid land being reforested and irrigated, creating a nutritious soil in which to grow crops, if necessary protected from excess sun by the shade of the trees.  Vegetable, fruit and coffee production has improved the lives of much of Ethiopia’s population, and the organisation also teaches the importance of trees in schools.
