Launched on 8 March 2019, The Network of African Women Environmentalists (NAWE) is a female-led organisation working to improve environmental governance through leadership development, career building and networking.  Their aim, promoted by the United Nations Environment Programme, is to empower women environmentalists who are aiding the restoration of African landscapes, to help achieve the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals and to build resilience in local communities.

NAWE’s recent work includes the Earth Science Cafes online conference, which took place on 22 April 2020.  This explored the theme of ‘Connecting Science to Society’, recognising the importance of indigenous knowledge systems and traditional wisdom in preserving the balance of nature.
