Oceana is an international ocean conservation charity which lobbies for policy changes – such as those that bring about science-based fishery management – that will positively affect our seas.  Founded in 2001, it is the world’s largest advocacy organisation focused on ocean restoration.

It cites the main problems as overfishing and other unsustainable fishing practices (it actually advocates for eating more fish, which overfishing is, ironically, preventing), and pollution of the oceans globally.  Recent work alongside its ongoing public and political campaigns includes the publication of The Perfect Protein: The Fish Lover’s Guide to Saving the Oceans and Feeding the World, which explains how we can sustainably manage the oceans for the benefit of the sea itself, marine life, the wider environment and mankind.
