The Lexicon is an online information platform with the aim to accelerate the adoption of practices that will build more resilient food systems and help combat climate change. Founded in 2009 by American artist and writer Douglas Gayeton and his wife, TV advertising producer Laura Howard-Gayeton, the organisation takes what it calls a “multi-stakeholder storytelling approach” to foster partnerships in the areas of food, agriculture and water.
Its premise is to “give a face” to the data around climate science, deliver information in a compelling way across media platforms, and to educate through collaboration via online communities, such as FoodTBD. As such it empowers sustainability advocates to engender behavioural change at a local level, which taken together with many locations will have a global impact.
It has published books, produced films, issued training manuals for sector workers, and curriculum material for schools, and makes mobile apps and a website dedicated to information about food and food production.
Type of organisation: non-profit company
