Waste Warriors was founded in 2012 by Jodie Underhill and Taashi Pareek to help tackle the garbage situation in India.  The non-governmental organisation works primarily through direct action initiatives such as area transformations, awareness-raising, behavioural change programmes and community engagement and development.

Since 2012, Waste Warriors has collected over 4,223 tons of rubbish from Bhagsunag Triund, helping it to become one of the cleanest hiking destinations in India.

More recently, during the Covid-19 crisis, the NGO set up an initiative to help waste workers and others during lockdown. In Dehradun and Dharamshala, Waste Warriors was able to distribute 1,786 food relief kits and support 5,217 people.  In addition, more than 900 sanitation items were distributed to those in Dehradun.
