Led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the New Plastics Economy applies the principles of the circular economy and brings together key stakeholders to rethink and redesign the future of plastics – with the proposed result being that plastic is never a waste product or source of pollution. It believes that ‘eliminate’, ‘innovate’ and ‘circulate’ are key to this. As well as carrying out research and issuing reports, the group has created the Plastics Pact network – to which more than 400 organisations have signed up – and runs the Innovation Prize to promote useful solutions.
Recent work includes a Progress Report on what the world’s organisations are doing to help solve the plastic waste crisis, in collaboration with the UN.
