OpenSC (Open Supply Chains) encourages responsible production and consumption: through its supply chain traceability and transparency technology for businesses; and by giving consumers access to information about where products come from, and how they have been made and transported.

The business service involves the use of IoT (Internet of Things) and blockchain technology so that products such as, for example, fish, can be tracked across the whole supply chain – from where they are fished to where they are then prepared and then distributed, and therefore how.  This enables companies to ensure their operations are genuinely ethical and sustainable, and proves the provenance of their product.

The consumer service presents information so people can make informed choices about the products they buy, based on how ethically and sustainably they have arrived at shops.  The aim is that with this data at their fingertips, consumers will only choose products that can prove they did not use modern slavery or environmentally unfriendly practices at any point in their journey to shelves.
