Germany-based Plant-for-the-Planet was started by a schoolboy after he became aware that planting trees on a massive scale could help solve the climate crisis. Backed by the United Nations Environment Programme, the initiative’s original aim was for schoolchildren in each country to help plant a million trees – a target that was reached in Germany in 2010. Its current aim is for the world’s tree population to be increased by another one trillion. The campaign is spreading around the world, often with celebrity support, and its planting events are always child-led.
Recent work includes taking the campaign to the Czech Republic.
