The Repair Café Foundation organises repair cafés in cities across the world where people can take in their consumer goods that need fixing. The repairs are undertaken by specialist volunteers and users do not need to pay, but donations are encouraged to cover overheads. The organisation also campaigns for ‘right to repair’ policies to be implemented by governments in order to reduce the waste created by people discarding items in the belief that it is not worth fixing them.
The first café opened in Amsterdam in 2009 and the organisation now supports local groups in the Netherlands, the UK and elsewhere. It provides a starter kit to those interested in setting up their own repair café.
Type of organisation: non-profit company
