TIDES says it is the world’s largest dataset of rubbish in our oceans. This data is collected by volunteers during the annual International Coastal Cleanup, and is also updated by users of Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell app. TIDES – Trash Information and Data for Education and Solutions – provides a global map of ocean pollution that can be interacted with to show local hotspots. The organisation also produces reports on the situation and information on how to join clean-up operations.
TIDES is part of the Trash Free Seas programme, recent work of which includes the latest International Coastal Cleanup in September 2019. The annual event attracts volunteers from more than 100 countries.
