Ecosia is an environmentally friendly alternative to Google.  Perhaps surprisingly, using the more famous search engine carries a cost to the Earth thanks to the company’s carbon dioxide emissions.  Ecosia, on the other hand, plants a tree for every 45 times it is used, its servers run on renewable energy and it publishes a monthly report detailing where its profits are spent.

Recent work includes a soil and tree restoration project in Spain to help prevent desertification in the country, which if left unchecked could threaten Europe’s food security.
