ROKBOX is a reusable artwork shipping solution that comes in two sizes – 43in x 43in x 11in and 62.5in x 62.5in x 13.375in – with a variety of new dimensions in the pipeline. The alternative to traditional wooden shipping cases (which are often destroyed after being opened) is built for durability and made from recycled or recyclable materials.
Priced similarly to high-end wooden cases, the economic advantage to users is the payback gained by reusing it time and time again, instead of purchasing a new crate for each shipment; with the environmental benefit being less wood needed to build cases, and less packaging sent to landfill because fewer wooden cases using such packaging will be in circulation.
Multiple pieces can be housed in one case (again, leading to less need for disposable packaging because work does not have to be individually wrapped), with the artwork being easily clipped into a floating panel within the case that is secured within an outer shell.
The London-based company claims the ROKBOX is stronger than wooden crates – and protects against shock, puncture, water and vibration – while deliveries of the product have their CO2 impact offset by Carbon Footprint Ltd’s credit scheme.
In 2019 it won the Best of the Best category in the coveted Red Dot design awards, giving it a thumbs up from both the design crowd as well as the environmentally conscious.
